Ripe fruit of Daucus carota L. (Apiaceae/Umbelliferae). Fruit of Torilis scabra (Thunb.) DC. (Apiaceae/Umbelliferae).
Killing parasites; resolving retention of undigested food. Killing parasites; stopping diarrhoea; removing dampness to stop itching.
Ascariasis, oxyuriasis, taeniasis, abdominal pain caused by intestinal parasites; malnutrition and retention of undigested food due to improper feeding. Abdominal pain caused by intestinal parasites, dysenteric disorder, sores, leucorrhoea, rubella and eczema.
Top grades comprise full kernels, off-white in colour and oily in texture. Top grades are even, plump.

He Shi (Fructus Carpesii), which is also called “Bei He Shi” (北鶴虱), and Nan He Shi (Fructus Carotae) are both listed in the C.P. The sources of these herbs are totally different and careful differentiation should be made during use. Further study is needed to identify their chemical ingredients and distinguish clinical applications. They are both a little toxic. However, according to the literature, the functions of these herbs are the same.
