Herba Siegesbeckiae and Herba Epimeredis Indicae
Aerial part of Siegesbeckia pubescens Makino (Asteraceae/ Compositae). Whole herb of Epimeredi indica (L.) Rothm. (Lamiaceae/Labiatae).
Expelling wind and dampness; dredging meridians and collaterals; clearing away heat to remove toxins. Expelling wind and dampness; resolving sore-toxins.
Rheumatic ar thralgia with aching and weakness of the lower back and knees; numbness of limbs; hemiplegia; rubella; sores with exudation. Numbness caused by damp-heat; hyper tension; distor tion of the face; snake or insect bites; carbuncles and furuncles.
Top grades have tender stem and abundant dark green leaves. Top grades have abundant greyishgreen leaves.

According to the C.P., the aerial par t of Siegesbeckia orientalis L. or S. glabrescens Makino are also used as Xi Xian Cao (Herba Siegesbeckiae). Fang Feng Cao (Herba Epimeredis Indicae) is also called “Xi Xian Cao” and “Tu Fang Feng” (土防風) in the Ling Nan Cai Yao Lu. The sources of these herbs are totally different, and careful differentiation should be made during use.
