Rhizoma Typhonii Praeparata and Radix Aconiti Lateralis Praeparata
Rhizome tuber of Typhonium giganteum Engl. (Araceae). Daughter root of Aconitum carmichaeli Debx. (Ranunculaceae).
Expelling wind phlegm; stopping fright convulsions; removing toxins; dispersing stagnation to relieve pain. Reviving yang for resuscitation; reinforcing fire to strengthen yang; dispelling cold and eliminating dampness.
Dizziness; facial palsy, hemiplegia, cerebral vascular accident; scrofula; snakebites. Collapse with cold limbs and faint pulse due to prostration of yang; impotence, cold in uterus; cold pain in the heat and abdomen, ar thralgia.
Top grades are large, hard and solid, white, powdery. Top grades are pieces even, yellowish-white, semi-transparent.

The commercial product of Zhi Bai Fu Zi (Rhizoma Typhonii) is called “Yu Bai Fu” (禹白附) and Bai Fu Pian (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Praeparata) is one of the processed products of Aconitum carmichaeli Debx. These two species are easily mixed up because of their similar common names in Chinese. The crude drugs of the two species are listed in Hong Kong as Schedule I (Toxic/Potent) Chinese Materia Medica, and the processed products are listed under Schedule II.
